WoW Dark Portal. Still trying to decide if this is ready for release. I'm not digging the fonts, but thats a simple fix, really. Let me know if ya dig.

1. The font needs changing, as does the color of the font. The fontwork is also too large in size.
2. The footer area is disproportionately huge. Without knowing what goes there, it is hard to say that the footer size is appropriate.
3. The border work does not line up, where the left and center blocks meet. This will be a problem, always, since blocks on users' sites can vary widely. I suggest capping the ends of at least the center block borderwork.
4. The vertical borderwork of the left and right blocks is uninspiring. It doesn't mesh well with the rest of the theme.
5. The inside of the tomb or portal, in the header graphic, is glowing, or at least has some internal light source. The center or right blocks should reflect this. Ideally, the tomb or portal graphic would continue down below the header, for the best effect. Instead, the viewer is treated to dark colors for the backgrounds of the left, center, and right blocks. Why not take those big blocks from the header graphic, that form the door to the tomb/portal, and use them to make whatever is below the header into the site displayed in the header graphic? This would mean that the left and right blocks could have rune graphics, perhaps, and the center block would be more bluish in color, to serve as the tomb/portal door.
6. The footer, according, would then look more like the ground in front of the tomb/portal entrance. |

Thanks for the insight GB! I'm not nearly as good with 3dish layouts as Mars is, so this is good criticism.
As far as # 2 goes, the footer is al the way at the bottom, its not the area up to the bottom of the menu.
I'll try to touch it up going forward and see if your info helps. Now that I look back on it, this can be improved. No wonder no one wants my themes! |

I seriously doubt, Don, that no one wants your themes. From what I can see from the pictures of the themes presented, your themes look better than many, if not most, found on the Internet.
But, that's not the point of why I bother with posting critiques and criticisms of themes here on the PortalThemes.com website.
As a general rule of thumb, seeing a picture of a theme is a distinct creature from seeing the theme, itself. It is beneficial, when conducting thematic analysis, to actually see the theme, itself, in action, and how it handles and displays various information and links.
Normally, a PostNuke theme has a header area, a footer area, a left blocks area, a center blocks area, and a right blocks area. There are variations on this, of course, but generally speaking, these are the areas that a theme normally encompasses.
The usual result is a squarish or retangular looking theme. Geographic variety can be helpful in folling the human eye into perceiving an otherwise square or rectangular theme as a pea of a different pod.
The World of Warcraft themes are good examples, I feel, of how the thematic framework is overshadowed by a visually appealing header graphic. The header graphic, as such, is often the "main course" of the thematic buffet, but this is one of the core problems with many themes. The header graphic should be the icing on the cake. Icing is a poor substitute for the cake, itself.
The header graphic in this theme above, for example, the Dark Portal graphic, is very appealing, in a visual sense. The huge snake conjures up images of evil, and could just as easily be found in a Stygian setting in Robert E. Howard's fictional world of Hyboria. But, no effort has been made, whatsoever, to build upon and to play upon this snake element, elsewhere in the theme. The eyes of the guards glow with crimson fury, but nowhere else are they to be found, save in the header graphic. The huge and heavy stonework of the temple, impressive as it is in the header graphic, is noticeably missing from elsewhere in the theme. Great contrast is presented in the header graphic, as the blue light inside of the portal contrasts well against the reddish background of the skies past the portal. Yet, as one scrolls down the theme, this very same degree of contrast is notably absent. Not even the dark and broding mountainscape is carried beneath the header graphic.
The ropework type edgework above and beneath the header graphic does not look bad. Rather, it seems to find its way onto multiple themes, sacrificing its originality along the way. Each theme, however, should be unique, if at all possible. I have never understood why people with such graphical and thematic talents do not push the envelopes of creativity and originality more often than they do. A master artist or master craftsman produces a masterpiece with each piece that they produce. They are not limited by the handiworks of yesterdays now past. |

| I think your themes look great, if you can step away from the wow themes which there are way to many now as it is, and find your own style and originality then you will be on the right track. "think outside the theme" hehe, don't be afraid to do something that has not been done before. |
