Hi.
I am relatively new to all this stuff: I'm a big noob .
I really like some of the themes on this site but have absolutely no idea how to go about installing them. Can someone point me in the direction of a really simple and easy to understand tutorial, or else post one here please?
If you do post one here, can you please put links to places i can download the required software for these themes, (because i don't think i have any of it) as well as what to do with the software?
Thank you so much for your time

Hello Sirfrancis welcome to portal themes
I'll take it you have installed postnuke/phpnuke already.
The first thing you need to do is install auto-theme ( at-lite .8 ) you can download this from the link below.
http://spidean.mckenzies.net/index.php
Please ensure you download the correct version for your site - phpnuke/postnke
upload the files to your ftp in your main site directory overwrite any files it asks you too.
then go to your administration page and select modules.
click regenerate and search for the autotheme module form the list.
activate this module before proceeding to install your theme.
Any theme you purchase/download from portal themes need to be uploaded to your themes folder via ftp.
just upload the entire folder to the themes directory.
then go back to your administration menu and select settings.
there you will find a drop down menu to select your new theme, select the theme and save the changes.
hey presto you should now be looking at your site with the theme successfully installed.
Good Luck |

Well, actually i don't have anything (AT Lite etc.) installed as of yet but i have downloaded PostNuke version 0.750 gold from here and AT-Lite .8 for PostNuke from here .
As i said above: i don't have ANYTHING installed (including PHP; however i am not sure if i need it). i hopefully will be able to make sense of the installation instructions for this software but before i actually do install it, could you please tell me if i have the right software?
As i said in my last post i'm a huge noob so don't make any assumptions that i have any of this stuff: i probably don't lol.
Thanks again

The versions that you have should work just fine. Install postnuke first then the autotheme. When you are installing it on your host make sure that the mysql version for the database is NOT a version that starts with the number 5.
If you really cant figure out the installation instructions then let us know as I think I still have a tutorial on my computer that I wrote awhile ago with fairly simple instructions. |

Could you please post those guides? I mean, i probably could find my way through it but with simpler instructions it would be a lot more reassuring for me (i don't really wanna make a mistake and stuff the whole thing up )
Thank you for your help

Oh and will i need to install PHP? I downloaded PHP 5.0.4 from here.
If it is not absolutley essential, i'd rather not install it.
Thanks

A couple of points here that need to be understood.
You dont need php any version personally. What you do need is a host for your website that offers up databases too. Most do this now and if you cant find one then ask Mars for a good reliable one. I use Powweb for my hosting needs. The database is where postnuke and the forums will actually reside once you upload and install your website. The database will be capable of handling the php. However, postnuke does not like php 5 any version so make sure that your host does not use it. Version 4 something is all that is required.
I will find my tutorial for you if I still have it and send you a pm here with the link to download it. Give me a day or two to find it. The tutorial was written for an earlier version of postnuke but it should still be current enough to handle .750.

Hello guys,
I am new at this too, i am having trouble finding out where to "activate" my autothemes for postnuke. I keep reading about chosing some options but where do i got to find those options? Right now i have postnuke installed and have autotheme uploaded to the postnuke/html directory. Is that right? I am lost............ |

Close but no.......
Move it to /modules then go to Admin Panel - Modules - click regenerate - find AutoThemes and initialize and then activate it. You should then be good to go. |

| Thanks for the quick reply.....That seems to be the theme here. I got it up and now i need to get my forums and user menu up. the url is www.bloodlinesguild.org/post/nuke/html/index.php. Again I am new and this might be a stupid noob question but is there a way to set just www.bllodlineguild.org as my main site? I guess there is a way to forward from there to where is it as now? |

Hello again,
Well I am really loving the site now that I have it somewhat up. I have had a few requests for a screenshots portion. I have seen them on other webpages and i would imagine you guys would know how to do it, or at least where to go to get it ;P. Thanks for your help. Also, is there a module that makes it possible for every user to have there own page? kinda like a member page. I am very new at this, and again thanks for everything. |

A module that could work for the screenshots might be Gallery but be warned it can be a real bitch to get it setup and working.
As for a members page, please give us a bit more info on what is to be accomplished with these pages. i.e. Do the members do the work on it? Is it just a page about each member? |

| Well the member pages would be more like a user page. I was thinking, if possbible, when a user makes a login it would create a page for everyone to view. It would have info abot the person a screenshot or 2. If the member could manage it then I would have no problem with that, but whatever is easiest is fine. If this cant be done auto, then how would I create the pages manualy? Also, when I try to access the forums and user links i get a strange error. Sorry, you can't access this file directly... the url is www.bloodlinesguild.org thanks again. |
