Post subject: Need some general installation hep PHP-NUKE.  PostPosted: Oct 18, 2006 - 12:15 AM

I have currently purchased PHP-NUKE 8 and downloded it all fine and uploaded it to my host via FTP. Now I ran the web install utility and get to step 4 and there are two options, view site or administartion. When I click on either one i get a blank page. So i did some reading and so i found out that for some reason there was no theme selected and so I had to go use the darkblue theme and moved the theme.php file out into the themes folder. Now I got a webpage but all i see is the header and a error below it that says "there is a problem with the homepage, come back at a later time."

As for the administration, i created a user, then it took me to the administration login and i entered the admin info from the web install and it took me right back to the creat user page. What am i doing wrong or what am i not doing?

Thanks,

Robert

The theme.php file doesn't belong in the themes folder, it sounds like some files are missing for the install though. I would reupload everything and see what happens.

Yea if you would like to take a look at what im talking about, the website is http://teamwoa.freehostia.com though im not sure if freehostia supports php nuke. Im guessing it does since the web based utility said everything was fine.

I would be happy to give u the FTP info if you could help.

Thanks.

Actually if you look at the Elefante Free Scripts the host there will install php-nuke for you so you don't have to uplod it at all. I registered and checked it out and discovered this. ;P

Yea, I found out that my hosting provider doesn't support it for they have no support for apache. So I just went with another hosting provider www.simplehost.com which turned out to work really nice and they actually had support for the PHP-NUKE. I uploaded and it installed fine. No problems and the website showed up properly with no errors. I know it wasn't me that was at error. If you would like to check it out its @
http://www.teampointblank.net

Thanks guys for your help anyway. Sorry, guess I should have made sure my host would have supported it before trying to install it.

Thanks Again,

-Robert

I have one other question at the moment though... When I clicked on forums in the admin cpanel, it gives me an error. Something like "Sorry, too many page loads in so little time!" Any reason why this is? Does PHP-NUKE come with forums or what exactly is this for, and do the templates like the clan spiral theme template come with forums? As in built in forums like within the template or is it separate phpbb forums?

Thanks,

-Robert

All the PHPNuke themes come with matching forums.
As for the error, did you activate the forum module in the modules section?

As a matter of fact I did do that, but the page thing is a little weird. After I activated the forums module, i went to the forums button in the cpanel and the first thing that always pops up is that error about pages loading in so little time. LoL! I refreshed the page and the right side of the form admin showed up but the left side was still saying too many page loads. So i refreshed again and its vice versa. LOL! They won't refresh together, but I found that I could just refresh the left side and click a link and the right side would show up. Something weird about the frames not wanting to load at the same time.

Thanks for the help!

OK....I have finally figured this one out. It is the new antiflood/dos attack prevention system. This writes the user's ip address and the microtime of the page load to the nuke_antiflood table each time the users loads a page. If there are 3 page loads in 2 seconds, the antiflood dies the script and puts up the "Sorry, too many page loads in so short a time" message. Unfortunately, there are 4 page loads to view the Forums admin page. Each frame counts as a page load and they add up to four. So whenever you view the Forums admin page you exceed the limit and the page shuts down with the message. So the page loads criterium is too severe for the Forums admin page. (I cant believe they didnt test this)

Solution. In includes/ipban.php find near the bottom:
Code:
if ($numrow >= 3) {
echo "<br><br><center><b>Sorry, too many page loads in so little time!</b></center>";
die();
}

and change to:
Code:
if ($numrow >= 5) {
echo "<br><br><center><b>Sorry, too many page loads in so little time!</b></center>";
die();
}

This will allow sufficient page loads to view the frames in Forums admin, without disabling the antiflood system altogether.

Ok cool I will make that change soon.

But for now I have another small problem.

I noticed that when you try to register on the forums using the "register" link I get the following error after is asks about the age:

---------------------------------------------------------------

Could not delete stale confirm data

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1146 Table 'firefox_phpnuke.nuke_bbconfirm' doesn't exist

----------------------------------------------------------------

Now I have also noticed that if you click login first then goto the link "new user registration" you can enter the info it asks for and I was able to register with the forums.

Anyone know why the register link gives an error?

I think it may have been a bug made during the conversion from phpbb to php-nuke seein as how the registration methods are very different for both links.

Like the register link is old phpbb registration style and the "new user registration" link is the new php-nuke registration style.

Although......

While looking around in the forums cp I noticed the red lettering saying my forums installation was out date and there is a new version plus it provided a link to get the update. I went to the site and downloaded the update.

I proceeded to extract the folder and upload it to the root folder via FTP.
Then the instructions said to drag the upgrade20-21.php out of the upgrade folder and into the root folder and to call on it from the browser.

So I did and got the "Upgrade Complete!" message and then it told me to delete the upgrade files and i did.

Im not sure if this is what has caused the error since i did not try to register on the forums until after the update.

Thanks for your help.

-Robert

No idea on that one, but I don't think you can do a direct PHPBB upgrade on the PHPNuke version.

Oh well, Ill just reinstall the original forums folder from the nuke installation and see if that fixes it.

Now when ur talking about "direct PHPBB upgrade on the PHPNuke version." what did you mean? I used the bbtonuke which is supposed to be the special upgrade for php-nuke i take it. no?

Btw, Thanks for the code fix, it works now. Im making a backup too of the installation.

Ok I know what is causing this error and it happens to deal with a very important security feature of the forums. Under configuration menu in the forums cp, there is the option to enable "visual confirmation" well when its enabled I get that error as stated above in the quote. So i went back and disabled the visual confirmation and the error doesn't pop up anymore.

Can someone look at the code and find out why it won't allow the visual confirmation?

Thanks,

-Robert
