Ok, I think that I installed it, but I am not sure.
I uploaded it to the Modules directory, but this may be wrong.
It initialized and activated, but I have no clue what I am doing.
Do I need to start over? |

I downloaded the Red theme from the Free Themes download section.
AutoThemes seems to "see" the file, and lists red as the only AutoTheme theme in my themes directory, but I can't get it to load it, or whatever it does.
Thus far, I am unimpressed with AutoThemes. |

Once you unzip the Autotheme.zip file you end up with
modules\autotheme
modules\blocks
themes\autotheme
themes\autoprint
These should be uploaded to match your file structure on your site.
Then you initialize and activate AutoTheme |

Well, I'll need to delete it, and start over, huh?
I'll post when I do that. |

Actually, with AtuoTheme.zip unzipped, I have all kinds of crap in the new AutoTheme folder on my computer's hard drive.
There are 8 subfolders: _compile; docs; extras; images, includes, lang, templates; and tools.
Other files in the AutoTheme folder include: autotheme.cfg; autotheme.sh; admin.php; autotheme.php; index.php; pnadminapi.php; pnuserapi.php, and Version.php. |

That folder named AutoTheme gets uploaded to modules on your site.
so you will have modules\AutoTheme
With all the subfolders under it. |

Well, I did that.
Of course, the instructions included say to upload things to the root directory:
* FTP upload the entire contents to your CMS root directory (accept any directory overwrite warnings. These directories are not being overwritten. The warnings are generated because the directory already exists, but this is fine.)
So, do I need to treat AutoThemes as a typical module for the purpose of uploading to my web host?
If so, then I need to reupload it to my modules folder, just as I did before.
If that's the case, then I deleted it for nothing.
Pah!! |

I have reuploaded the AutoTheme folder into my modules folder of my web host. However, I am left unsure about the following, which you previously stated:
modules\autotheme
modules\blocks
themes\autotheme
themes\autoprint
In my themes folder, there is no autotheme nor autoprint categories/sub-folders. |

For the record, this is NOT what I ended up with, when I unzipped the Autotheme.zip file. |

When you unzipped the autotheme download to a folder on your harddrive then you should have been left with 3 distinct folders.
1>Modules
2>Templates
3>Themes
First open up the Modules folder and you will see two folders called Blocks and AutoTheme. Put AutoTheme in /modules and the put Blocks into the /modules/blocks. You will be prompted to overwrite some existing files in the /modules/blocks. Do so because you have to.
Second, open up the Themes folder and select all or none of the stock themes available and uploading them to /themes. This is up to you whether or not you want the themes.
Third, ignore the folder Templates as it is not needed.
Once all the above mentioned stuff is completed go to postnuke Admin Panel and initialise and activate the AutoTheme module.
That should do it. |

Well, since that is not what I was left with, after I unzipped the file, then we do not have a common frame of reference from which to work.
I'll have to find a copy of AutoThemes that yields what I am told it should yield, which is not the case at present. |

You are using the same AutoTheme download that Im using so I went back and revisited it from our source.
Here is what I have from the same place:
I unzipped it to a new folder on my harddrive and it gave me two distinct folders. One is called "Modules" and the other "Themes".
When you double click on "Modules" it will present you with two new distinct folders, one called "AutoTheme" and the other is "Blocks".
Now, DO NOT OPEN the "AutoTheme" folder, instead just directly upload it to /modules at your server. Yes, you treat it just like a normal module addition.
Now, double click the "Blocks" folder and when it opens it will show you two separate files. Upload both of these files to /modules/blocks on your server. When you do this you may or will be prompted to overwrite those files, do so.
Now, backtrack to your original two folders on your harddrive (Modules and Themes).
Double click on the "Themes" folder. When it opens you will see six separate stock theme folders. You have the choice now of sending all or any or none of these to your server at /themes.
As a side note, I believe that you downloaded the "Red" theme from this site. Send that folder to /themes if you only want to try that theme for your site.
Once you have completed the above you should be able to go to Admin Panel - Modules and initialise and activate the module "AutoTheme". This is all based on the assumption that you are using PostNuke. Once you have it activated you should now be able to go to Admin Panel - Settings and adjust to the theme that you wish to try. An alternative is to go to the frontpage of your site and in the address bar that is showing your site name add (?theme="themenamehere") and this will temporarily show you the new theme as active so that you can see it live on your site.
That should be it. |
